Blackstone

John

John Blackstone was a planter and one of the three from the Robert Gorges colony in Weymouth to make the first known settlements in the upper bay of Boston. Gorges settled in Weymouth in 1623, but the colony was failing and he was in poor health. He returned to England and left John Blackstone to settle Boston, Samuel Maverick at Winnisimmet and Thomas Walford at Charlestown. Probably around 1624. On April 3 of 1633 the Governor and his assistants granted to Blackstone fifty acres of land in Boston. Not much is known about Blackstone until 1634/35 when John Blackstone left Boston and settled in Cumberland, Rhode Island.

Blackstone

William

William Blackstone was a batchelor and owned about 50 acres on the Boston peninsula. The land was giranted to him by the General Court on April 1, 1633. In 1634 Boston purchased all of his land except 6 acres, each household paying six shillings or more. He may have been a brother of John Blackstone.
