Wife and Four Children Alarmed Over Absence of Man Who Disappeared During the Fire
His wife and four children are greatly alarmed over the absence of Cornelius Coughlin, who left his home at 120 Williams Street during the fire. Mr. Coughlin was last seen at the corner of Everett Avenue and Chestnut Street at 2 o'clock when the fire was sweeping along the streets in the vicinty. He was then assisting the firemen of Engine 2 of Cambridge. Mr. Coughlin was dressed in a blue jumper, black trousers, a black winter cap with a button and rubber boots. One of the firemen remembers Mr. Coughlin. John McCarthy of Williams Street and Thomas Duffy of Beachmont also saw him, but lost all trace of him when they were driven from their stations by the progress of the fire. His friends fear he was overwhelmed beneath the walls of a falling building. Coughlin was 34 years old, 5 feet 10 1/2 inches tall. His children range in age from 9 years to 10 months. He was a teamster for J. F. Lewis & Company coal dealers.

On January 19, 1909 a hearing was held at the State House on a bill to pay Mrs. Catherine Coughlin $1000. Cornelius Coughlin lost his life while performing the duties of a fireman at the corner of Everett Ave. and Cherry St. He was called upon to assist Cambridge Engine 2 in fighting the fire.
